Help - Receiving Dividends

To register the receipt of a dividend, you can either:

  • Choose 'Receive a Dividend' from the 'Portfolios' menu
  • Hit the gold 'Receive a Dividend' button on the toolbar
  • Right click your portfolio name, or 'Dividends Received' under the 'My Portfolios' tree tab and select 'Receive a Dividend' from the popup menu

You will be presented with the dialog below to enter the dividend information. If there is any ambiguity about which portfolio to register the dividend for, StockWhip will ask you to select one.

In the dialog, the first thing is to choose the stock code for the share from the drop down list of shares you hold. StockWhip doesn't need this share registered as held because its possible to receive a dividend for share after you have sold it.

Then enter the number of shares on which the dividend is based and the dividend rate per share.

StockWhip will then calculate the value of the dividend and enter it for you. If your country's tax system provides for franking credits for dividends, enter the rate at which the dividend is franked, otherwise leave this at zero.

If you received the dividend as shares in a dividend reinvestment plan, change the radio button from 'Paid in cash' to 'Dividend reinvestment', and then enter the number of shares received and the effective buy price of those shares. These will be tracked by StockWhip like the rest of your holding.

You can also mark this dividend as coming from a foreign country, type in the name of the country and whether any tax has been already withheld from payment of the dividend.
