Help - Buying Shares

To register the purchase of shares bought, you can either:

  • Choose 'Buy Shares' from the 'Portfolios' menu
  • Hit the tangerine 'Buy Shares' button on the toolbar
  • Right click your portfolio name, or 'Shares Held' under the 'My Portfolios' tree tab and select 'Buy Shares' from the popup menu

You will be presented with the dialog below to enter the share purchase information. If there is any ambiguity about which portfolio to register the share purchase for, StockWhip will ask you to select one.

In the dialog, the first thing is to enter in the stock code for the share. You should always hit the search button to the right of the stock code to either search for the code you want, or at least check it is the correct code. StockWhip will fill out the 'Stock name' field with the company name as an extra visual check for you (you can't edit this).

Then enter the number of shares purchased, the price bought at, the brokerage, and (get this right!) the date on which the shares were purchased.

You can optionally enter a comment about the purchase.

You can see both the 'Buy Shares' dialog and the 'Stock Search' dialog for a result of searching for 'woodside'. Be sure to select from the market requires. Some markets are not displayed, such as the Australian AX. See finance.yahoo.com for details.
